While Joe is gone, some of his work still remains. DC will present the six issue Joe Kubert Presents series later this year where Joe brings several different characters, both DC and creator-owned to life. As seen here, issue one features Hawkman and Hawkgirl.

Kubert spent years working on DC’s war books as editor, artist and writer. No one is as synonymous with Sgt. Rock as he is, and he put work into just about every World War II soldier at one point or another, even producing multiple Sgt. Rock stories in the 2000s.

As DC’s Golden Age artist in residence, Joe often was called upon to draw Golden Age characters, such as in this piece, one card in a three part triptych in the classic DC Heroes card set.

While Kubert may be most well known for his Hawkman work, it was always Tarzan that seemed closest to his heart. He drew the character for several years at DC and still had a love for the character evident even in this 2008 drawing.
