Wrestling Wednesday: Top 10 Wrestlers of 2012

Followers on my Facebook page know that I have been tracking the Top 10 Wrestlers of 2012 over the last week over at the Examiner. This is the second year I have done this (with 11 last year for 2011), but only three wrestlers carried over from the 2011 list.

I am proud to reprint the complete list here on SPF. Each entry will link back to the page on the Examiner with the complete article of why that wrestler ranked in the Top 10 this year!

10. Daniel Bryan
9. James Storm
8. AJ Lee
7. Eddie Kingston (last year: 1)
6. Austin Aries
5. Ultramantis Black
4. Ryback
3. Bobby Roode (last year: 11)
2. Kevin Steen

1. CM Punk (last year: 2)

Wrestling Wednesday: Showdown in the Sun Day 2 & Holly Rocamora

While I loved Showdown in the Sun Day 1 quite a bit, everything about the second half of the event absolutely blew it away. While Wrestlemania XXVIII the next day was impressive, Showdown in the Sun Day 2 was the event of the weekend.

Read my two part review at the Examiner and find out about some great guest stars, a hard-hitting tag match and a main event featuring the American wrestling match of the year (so far). Part One Part Two

Over a year ago, I featured a cosplay of a painted Harley Quinn as part of Cosplay Friday. Turns out this Cosplayer is actually a British wrestler now. Her name is Holly Rocamora and she’s a journeyman working at various promotions throughout the British Isles.

Here is video of her in action:

And here is a short bit where she shows off some holds from British TV’s Wrestletalk TV:

Wrestling Wednesday: Showdown in the Sun Day 1 and WWF War Zone

Hopefully everyone didn’t miss this column while we were away for a week!

Ring of Honor put on a heck of a weekend with their Showdown in the Sun events. Over on the Examiner, I take a look at the show in a two part article. Read part one here and part two here.

Overall, this was a great event that really showcased the promotion really coming together with its new roster. The highlight of the night was really Steen/Generico. While not quite as stupendous as their Final Battle 2010 contest, it was an amazing display of endurance by both men. Along with a strong showing by Alexander & Coleman as well as the three way main event, this was a solid night of wrestling action.

But not as good as night two, but more on that next week.

ROH will crown new tag team champions soon as they have lost one half of their current champions to Impact Wrestling. I plan to take a more detailed look at King in TNA and the potential teams for the ROH tournament in the near future.

We close out this installment with what has become a regular occurrence on this weekly forum: Joe Gagne’s Funtime Pro Wrestling Arcade. This week, one of the most disappointing wrestling games I ever tried… and that is saying something in the world of wrestling video games.

Wrestling Wednesday: Wrestlemania XXVIII, this week’s ROH and more Fun Time Pro Wrestling Arcade

Eddie Edwards versus Davey Richards main evented another excellent edition of ROH. While TNA has been on the rise of late with their shows, Ring of Honor has consistently produced solid wrestling week after week for months now. If you are not watching it on your local station (or your station doesn’t carry it) make sure to watch it online.

Read the full review of Richards/Edwards IV at the Examiner.

Wrestlemania XXVIII was a spectacle for the ages. But it was also the best Wrestlemania since the Wrestlemania all other Manias should be measured against: Wrestlemania X7.

I have looked back at the entire event in a three part article at the Examiner.

Part One covers the first hour of the event and the lower card matches: Orton/Kane, Bryan/Sheamus and the Diva match.

Part Two covers the “End of an Era” match between Triple H and Undertaker, easily the two men’s greatest battle.

Part Three covers the two epic main events. First CM Punk battled Chris Jericho for the WWE title. Then the battle of a lifetime match between John Cena and The Rock.

Together it is an amazing event, worth every penny on DVD.

And I will leave you with this week’s Fun Time Pro Wrestling Arcade from Joe Gagne. This week, Japanese imports Virtual Pro Wrestling 64 and Virtual Pro Wrestling 2.

Wrestling Wednesday: ROH TV, Mildred Burke and No Mercy!

Cedric Alexander & Caprice Coleman put on another impressive performance on this week’s ROH TV. Read the full recap here.

Joe Gagne is back with arguably the greatest wrestling game of all time in his pro wrestling arcade, No Mercy. Watch it below.

Mildred Burke is famous as the first female champion in wrestling history. I review her compelling biography in a review over at the Examiner. Read the full article here.

And finally Chikara announced their first trio in the annual King of Trios tournament, and it is a huge one:
